I once kept an unrequited love going for almost a year by writing a short novel about a woman (me) winning back the heart of the man who'd kicked her to the curb (him). I was completely engaged and really believed that if I sent it to him he'd come back. However, not only didn't it achieve the desired goal, but it was never published, so that was that.
And Mary, I'm sorry to do what might seem a battle of the DJ's on your substack, but geez, ya got that good old melancholy vibe going here, and it's a beautiful thing. I may have to revisit your Margaret Mandolph post. ;-)
Oh gosh. I've been there. On both ends of it. Having grown up on sermons about stalking and not being creepy I never shared any of my work.
I think it was Lawrence Durrell who said you could love a woman, suffer for her, or turn her into literature. Well (mutatis mutandis), I guess two out of three isn't bad.
Depending how steamy it was you could try literotica.

Diane, You made me think of "Walk On By" which got a close re-listen on Burt Bacharachs recent departure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpoBISzUP4o

Battle of the DJ's? nothing wrong with sharing more music you like. People can build a playlist.
February is the cruelest month, breeding
roses on all others' land, mixing
memory and resentment, shadowing
Barren ground with a feint at rain.
Thank you - I love that song!

Thank you hugely for this. I'm right there now. First time I've experienced it in nearly 30 years. And even more intense this time...
