The strangest ways we find each other! How many other things have to happen/not happen, when and where, and not a second before! The heart quickens at such an awareness of that!

That Innocence Mission song just rerouted my whole day. Thank you for this.

I totally get this.

So much of my music is algorithm-ised now, I long for a mix made by a friend, a potential friend, even a stranger. I love finding friends on some music platform, and seeing that they have a mix for themselves, and getting to listen in and feel like them for a while.

(Sometimes we think those playlists are private when they're not.)

Anyway, sharing art and story and images and touch- what else is there?

"...and feel like them for a while."

Yes, that's what it's like, if its someone you know, I thought I was the only person who did that, pretend to be hearing through another person's ears for a little bit!

I love this. I love this. I love this. Music/song can say more than a thousand conversations between people sometimes. Such a great gift. Will listen to all - inspired.

this was good, i enjoyed this

every mixtape guy has a story about a girl who loved the mixtapes he gave her but didn't even remember they met lol

I don't think this was like that. I met him briefly, twice, in a public space over a period of five years, eight years ago. He didn't behave like he had a crush on me. That's why I think it's amazing that he made such great mixes for me and why I wanted to shout out.

no shade intended - i think it's cool that he did this and that you shared it

I put these songs into a YouTube playlist, which I can share here if Mary would like.

In a format people could listen to more easily? Sure! Thank you!

Just a playlist so you can click on the first, and then they will all play. Spotify doesn't have some of these and I'd assume other music platforms would also lack them.

This is great! Thank you!!! I don't know why I didn't know how to do this, but am glad someone else did! Insert string of hearts here!

As a maniacal playlist compiler (and formerly obsessive mixtape -- and later -- mix CD maker) I reveled in this post. And Tim's beguiling collection of tunes (and yes, his segues are what elevate the compendium into art). And damn, that poem he left for you on the inside cover of the disc. Lovely and eerie.

I wanted to wait a few beats before commenting on this post, to not disturb any of the aftereffects with references to *more* mixed up music (the good kind). But today felt good to jump back in.

So my lunar Scorpio nature is sharing with your solar Scorpio nature my continuing-to-spool-out playlist for 2022. I bet you're similar to me and complain about the difficulty in locating good music nowadays within the glut of streaming streams and mutating genres.

Here 'tis: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2WL2ahy2Dv0sxWo6cs2aj8?si=76005fe454b747a8

Should you be so inclined, do enjoy Mary, (and thank you for being on SS!)

Fascinating post, Mary, and rather tender in spirit.

Tape players are still around, but you might not want to be the kind of person who has one. I speak from experience.

Expand full comment

I actually might like to be that kind of person. I have a box of tapes I would still like to listen to (mostly mixtapes that can't be found elsewhere). Now that you raise the idea I'm thinking you can get them online?

yes. ebay might be a good place to start
