Thinking back on my expression of shock about people’s hatred towards Amber Heard, towards neighbors, judges, congresswomen, entire genders, races of people, somebody on Twitter:
I remember a conversation I had with a therapist, one of only good ones I’ve ever sought counsel from. I don’t remember what I said to inspire this comment from him, but I’ve never forgotten it. He was a queer Southern gentleman, so to get the full effect, imagine the words being spoken in a soft, lilting, oddly optimistic Southern accent:
Alas, I have completely failed in this, regarding myself and others. I am nonetheless grateful for the advice, felt in the sound of his voice as much as in the actual words.
